Spinal Stenosis Surgery
The most widely used operation for cervical spinal stenosis is posterior cervical laminectomy. Through an incision at the back of the neck, the neck muscles are gently moved aside and the laminae are removed at the affected levels to widen the spinal canal. If the spine is already unstable, or is considered at risk of becoming unstable after laminectomy, lateral mass screws are placed during the same operation to stabilise and fuse the vertebrae.
